This nationally recognised course provides the skills and knowledge required to safely operate breathing apparatus (BA) in irrespirable, hazardous, or oxygen-deficient environments. It covers self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), airline systems, and other open-circuit equipment (excluding closed-circuit rebreathers).

 

Delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909), the course is designed for workers who may be required to wear BA in confined spaces or hazardous atmospheres. Participants will learn to inspect and test equipment, don and operate BA safely, identify and control hazards, respond to emergencies, and complete post-use maintenance and reporting. Training aligns with AS/NZS ISO 16975.3, AS/NZS 1715, and relevant WHS/OHS regulations to support safe performance in high-risk environments.

This course is designed for individuals required to wear breathing apparatus in hazardous atmospheres, typically within the fire sector. It prepares participants to operate as part of a team in challenging environments, including managing situations such as low air supply, entrapment, and equipment malfunction.

 

Delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909), the unit develops the skills and knowledge to select and conduct pre-donning checks, safely operate and maintain breathing apparatus in hazardous conditions, and correctly conclude operations in accordance with AS/NZS 1715.

Participants will learn how to assess a casualty, ensure scene safety, access emergency services, and provide first aid including CPR, use of a defibrillator, management of choking, bleeding, shock, asthma, and anaphylaxis. The course also covers basic anatomy and physiology, effective handover to emergency services, and reviewing incidents to improve response and recognise psychological impacts.

Training emphasises WHS requirements to reduce risk and promote safe practices in high-risk environments.

 

A prerequisite of PUAFIR210 – Prevent Injury applies for individuals undertaking fire-sector related training or RII30719 Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue.
